PALEOKASTRITSA

Paleokastritsa is considered to be one of the most famous place to visit on Corfu island. It includes an area with six small caves and beaches. The principal one is placed just under the monastery and since it’s bigger than the others, it also offers a large choice of tourist structures.

Paleokastritsa Caves

A second nice beach is placed next to the small pear. Paleokastritsa is famous for its beautiful clear blue and for some visitors cold  sea waters. Close to Paleokastritsa main beach there are numerous sea caves along the coast that can only be visited by  renting a boat. The most famous one are theNafsica caves and St. Nicholas caves.

Close to the beach of Paleokastritsa driving along an amazing panoramic road you reach to a  point where you can admire from the top all Paleokastritsa area. From this road you can see all together the six different bays, the two peninsulas and the Mediterranean nature that together with olive and lemon trees goes down into the Greek sea.

Paleokastritsa Monastery

Also with your Paleokastritsa visit one should miss visiting the old monastery dedicated to Holly Virgin, on the top of a little promontory. Inside the monastery is constituted of a courtyard with a portico and a modern building where there is a museum of Byzantine and post-Byzantine icons, sacred books, saintly tools and formal dresses. The view from the monastery is charming and you can admire, besides the sea, the islet opposite to the beach that for the shape looks like a ship.
